While choosing your subjects for Class 11th, keep these important points in your mind

STREAMS AFTER 10TH CLASS

1. SCIENCE  If you love science, nature, formulas, diagrams, equations, design, etc. then you can choose science. It offers a wide variety of career options. There are two options in science. You can either choose medical or non-medical

(a) Medical Stream: The subjects in this stream include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Compulsory English and vernacular language (e.g. Punjabi). After completing 12th with medical you can pursue following careers. Most of these courses can be taken after clearing various central and state entrance examinations like NEET. These include:

  • MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
  • BDS Bachelor of Dental Surgery
  • BAMS Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery
  • BHMS Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery
  • BPT Bachelor in Physiotherapy
  • Bachelor in Veterinary Science
  • B.Sc. Nursing
  • B Pharmacy
  • MLT Medical Lab Technician
  • X Ray Technician
  • GNM General Nursing and Midwifery

You can take Mathematics as an additional subject also. If you take maths you will be eligible for various engineering courses after 12th.

(b) Non-Medical Stream: The subjects studied under this stream are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Compulsory English and vernacular language (e.g. Punjabi). Courses after studying this stream include:
  • B.Tech./ B.E. Computer Science Engineering
  • B.Tech./ B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • B.Tech./ B.E. Electrical Engineering
  • B.Tech./ B.E. Mechanical Engineering
  • B.Tech./ B.E. Information Technology Engineering
  • B.Tech./ B.E. Civil Engineering
  • B.Tech./ B.E. Chemical Engineering

  • B.Tech./ B.E. Biochemical Engineering

Of course, you need to work hard to clear various entrance exams for admission to Engineering courses like JEE (Joint Entrance Examination), BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test), MET (Manipal Entrance Test), etc. You can also take Biology as an additional subject with Non medical stream. It makes you eligible for Medical entrance exams and courses.

2. COMMERCE : If you are interested in numbers, business, economics, finances, then commerce would be the right choice for you. It is a popular stream for those who want to excel in business or join professions like Chartered Accountant, Banking, etc.

The main subjects in Commerce include Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, Compulsory English and Optional subject like Mathematics, IT, Physical Education, Entrepreneurship. You can take these courses after studying Commerce.

3. ARTS/HUMANITIES: If you are fascinated by literature, history, politics, sociology, etc. then you can choose this field. It is a vast field offering number of subjects like Literature (English, Hindi, regional languages), History, Sociology, Political Science, Fine Arts, Geography, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physical Education, Home Science, Public Administration, Psychology, Music, etc.

In addition, you have to choose Compulsory English and Vernacular Language. After passing12th with humanities you can pursue following couses:
